What to Do If Your Plan Payment Fails
When your project’s plan payment fails, you’ll have a short grace period before your site is taken offline. Below, we’ll walk you through the notifications you’ll receive, the process leading up to your site going offline, and the basic steps you should take.
Point: About Automatic Plan Renewal and Changing Plans
Your paid Studio.Design plan will renew automatically on your renewal date unless you manually upgrade or downgrade.
If you upgrade to a higher plan, the difference is charged immediately and your new plan starts right away.
If you downgrade, the change won’t take effect right away. Instead, your plan will switch to the lower tier on your next renewal date. For more details, please see:
What Happens When a Payment Fails
If your payment fails on the renewal date, the project owner will receive a notification. If you’re able to complete your payment during the grace period, you can continue using your paid plan without interruption. If payment isn’t received within the grace period, your project will automatically switch to the Free plan and your site will go offline.
To avoid your site being taken offline, please check your credit card status (such as expiration date and spending limit) and update your payment information during the grace period.
Payment Failure Notifications
If your payment fails, you’ll be notified in the following ways:
Email Notification: Sent to the owner and billing owner from an address like “~~~~@stripe.com”.
Dashboard Notification: All users on the project will see a notification in the [Dashboard]. Only the billing owner will see the [Update Payment Information] button as active.
Grace Period for Failed Payments
If your payment fails, Studio.Design will attempt to retry your payment several times during the grace period. If a retry is successful, your site will remain online and your plan will continue as usual.
Note: The length of the grace period depends on your situation
If you’re continuing your current plan: 1 week from the failed payment
If you have scheduled a downgrade: 23 hours from the failed payment
You can also manually downgrade to the Free plan during the grace period, but your site will still go offline.
Common Reasons for Payment Failure
Your payment may fail for several reasons. Please check with your card issuer if you’re unsure. Common reasons include:
Your credit card has expired
Your card has a spending restriction or limit
There isn’t enough balance in your account (for debit cards)
How to Update Your Payment Information
If you need to register a new payment card, please do so during the grace period using the steps below:
Go to your project’s [Plan & Billing] tab in the [Dashboard].
Click the black [Update] button in the payment failure notification. (Only the billing owner can use this button.)
If Your Site Goes Offline
If you don’t resolve the payment issue during the grace period, your paid plan will be canceled, your project will switch to the Free plan, and your site will be taken offline. To bring your site back online, you’ll need to choose a plan and publish your site again.
Notification When Your Site Goes Offline
If your site is taken offline, the project owner and billing owner will receive an email from “noreply@studio.site”.
How to Bring Your Site Back Online
If you want to continue with a paid plan and bring your site back online, follow these steps:
Choose a Plan Again
Go to your project’s [Plan & Billing] tab in the [Dashboard], select your preferred plan, and complete your payment.
Reconnect Your Domain
If you were using a custom domain, it will be disconnected when your project switches to the Free plan. Please reconnect your domain.
