What is a Studio.Design project?

In Studio.Design, you create projects to build, publish, and manage your websites. This article covers the basics of projects and how to manage multiple projects using workspaces.

What is a Studio.Design project?

A project is the core concept behind building a site in Studio.Design. It's the space where you create, publish, and manage your website.

  • Each project can create and publish only one website.

  • A single account can create and manage multiple projects.

This article introduces the basic concept of projects and how to manage multiple projects using workspaces.

For how to use the project list, see Creating and managing projects. For how to use the project dashboard, see Using the dashboard.

Plans and pricing

You subscribe to a pricing plan for each project.

Available features—such as the number of publishable pages and storage capacity—differ by plan. For plan types, details, and pricing, see How to choose a project plan.

Inviting user accounts and setting permissions

By inviting other user accounts to a project, multiple accounts can manage and operate the site together. Each participating account is assigned one of the following roles (permissions), which determines what they can do.

Role

Main permissions

Owner

Manages the entire project and can perform all actions.

Billing Owner

Has the same permissions as the Owner, plus access to billing-related actions such as viewing and updating payment information.

Editor

Can edit in the Design Editor and Studio CMS. Cannot change plans or manage payment information.

For role details and setup, see Manage roles (permissions) for project members.

The diagram below shows an example of project management.

Each project can be on a different plan, and multiple user accounts can participate.

The two management screens for a project

Each project has two management screens—the Design Editor and the Dashboard—each used to configure and manage the following:

Design Editor

Dashboard

Content management, analytics, plan and member management, and various settings

To learn how to view and open each screen, see the articles below.

Opening a project

  1. Sign in to Studio.Design and open the project list.

  2. Hover over the thumbnail of the project you want to open.

  3. When [Dashboard] and [Editor] appear, click the screen you want to open.

In the vertical list view, click [Editor] (shown on hover) to open the editor. Clicking anywhere else takes you to the dashboard.

Configuring project settings

Information used to manage a project—such as the project name and cover image—can be configured under [Home] > [Project Settings].

For details on each setting, see Project settings.

Managing multiple projects together

If you want to manage multiple projects and accounts in one place, use the Workspace feature. We recommend using it once you start working with several projects.

Use case

Description

Organizing projects

By separating projects into different workspaces, you can keep internal, client, and other projects from getting mixed together.

Centralized billing

You can organize billing and payment information for multiple sites at the workspace level.

Account management

You can invite, remove, and manage account permissions in bulk at the workspace level.

For details, see What is a workspace?
