What Are Project Member Roles?
In Studio.Design, you manage and build websites on a project-by-project basis. You can invite multiple users to a project and assign each person a role that determines what they can do. This article explains the types of roles, what each can access, and how to change them.
What Are Roles?
A role defines what actions a project member can take. Studio.Design offers three roles for project members:
Owner
Billing Owner
Editor
Tip: For details on how to invite users to a project, refer to Inviting and Managing Project Members.
Types of Roles and Their Permissions
There are three types of roles in a project: Owner, Billing Owner and Editor
Tips: For more granular permission settings, consider using either advanced permission controls (available for Business plans and above) or use workspace permission settings (available on the Team plan, a paid plan).
Owner
Has full control over the entire project.
Can access everything: the editor, all dashboards, member invitations, plan and payment management—without any restrictions.
You can have multiple Owners in a single project. There’s no limit to the number of Owners.
Tip: We recommend having more than one Owner. If one Owner can’t log in, another can continue managing the project.
Billing Owner
Manages project payments.
This role exists only for paid projects, and there can be only one Billing Owner per project.
Has all the permissions of an Owner, plus the ability to manage payment information.
The Owner who upgrades a project to a paid plan automatically becomes the Billing Owner.
The Billing Owner can be changed later. Any Owner with billing information set up can make themselves the Billing Owner.
For details, refer to How to Change the Billing Owner.
Editor
Can create content and manage some parts of the project.
Can use the design editor, CMS, and forms, but cannot change the plan or view payment history.
