What is a social cover image?
A social cover image — also known as a thumbnail or OGP image — is the image that appears when you share a URL on social media or when your page shows up in search results.
Setting an image that matches your page content makes your posts easier to understand and helps them stand out on social media.
If no social cover image is set, no image will be displayed when the URL is shared on social media.
Tip: If your site is on the legacy infrastructure, the cover image in your project settings will be displayed when shared on social media.
Note: You can't set a social cover image for modals.
How to set a social cover image
(1) Open the Site Settings or Page Settings panel
Click outside the screen.
With no box element selected on the screen, open the right panel.
Use the [Page] tab for per-page settings, and the [Site] tab for site-wide settings.
Point: The difference between Site Settings and Page Settings
In Studio.Design, you can set the title and description at both the site level and page level.
Site Settings: Applied to the entire site. If a page doesn't have its own page settings, the site settings will be used.
Page Settings: Applied only to that specific page, and take priority over Site Settings.
(2) Choose an image
Under [Social Cover], click [Upload Image] or [Choose from CMS Property].
Select the image you want to use as your social cover image.
If the file size is too large, the image may not load correctly on some social media platforms or devices.
To remove an image, hover over it and click the [×] that appears in the top-right corner.
Upload an image
Click [Upload Image] and select the image file you want to use.
Recommended size: 1200px × 630px
Recommended file size: less than 5 MB
Use an image from a CMS property
A list of properties linked to the article will appear. Click one to choose the image associated with that article.
(3) Publish or update your site
After setting or changing your image, publish or update your site to apply the changes.
If you change the OGP image on a site that's already published, the changes won't appear on external services until you update the site.
Note: Delay before changes appear on your live site
Even after you change the OGP image and update your site, the changes won't immediately appear in search results or on social media. This is because each social media service manages the link between URLs and cover images on its own, using cached data. Please allow some time for the changes to take effect.
