Upgrade Your Project Plan

Learn how to upgrade your project to a higher plan. This guide covers the required payment info and permissions, plus what to do if you run into a payment error.

Changing from a free plan to a paid plan, or moving up to a higher-tier paid plan, is called a "plan upgrade." This article walks you through how to upgrade a plan on a per-project basis, along with a few things to keep in mind before you get started.

Permissions needed to upgrade a plan

Only users with the following permissions for the project can perform an upgrade.

The user who performs the upgrade becomes the billing owner for that project. If the project already has a billing owner, it will be switched to the user who performed the upgrade.

Note: You can't switch your billing cycle directly from yearly to monthly. The toggle on each plan card only switches what's displayed — it doesn't change your billing cycle.

Setting up your payment info in advance

Before upgrading a plan, make sure to set up your payment info on the account of the user who'll be performing the upgrade. You'll need the following:

  • Credit card information

  • Country of residence

How to upgrade your plan

Follow these steps to upgrade your project's plan.

  1. Select the project you want to upgrade from the project list and open its dashboard.

  2. Open the [Plan & Billing] tab.

  3. Use the [Business] [Individuals] tabs at the top of the screen to choose which category of plan you want. [Business] is shown by default. If you want to switch to Free, Mini, or Personal, select [Individuals].

Tip: Not sure which plan fits your needs? If you're on the Free plan, click [Start] on the banner next to the billing-cycle toggle for a recommendation. See How to Choose the Right Project Plan for details.

  4. On the plan card you want, use the toggle in the top right of the card to switch between yearly and monthly billing, if needed.

Tip: If you already have a paid plan, the card shows your current billing cycle by default. Otherwise, yearly billing is shown by default.

  5. Click the [Upgrade with Annual Billing] or [Upgrade with Monthly Billing] button on the card.

Tip: If you haven't added your payment info yet (card details and country of residence), click the [Add payment info] button to register it.

  6. Review the details, and if everything looks right, click the [Subscribe to (plan name) (billing cycle) plan] button.

Note: If your project name is "First project," a reminder message will appear asking you to double-check that you're upgrading the correct project.

Once the upgrade is complete, you'll receive a confirmation email at your registered email address.
