How to Close Your Studio Account
This guide explains how to close your Studio account and what to check before doing so.
Closing your account will permanently deactivate your Studio account and remove access to all associated projects and data.
Note:
Closing your account may affect project billing and publishing status.
Once deleted, your account cannot be restored.
To prevent misuse, you can’t create a new account using the same email address. If you need to re-register for any reason, please contact our team at contact@studio.design.
When You Don’t Need to Close Your Account
You don’t need to close your account if you simply want to:
Keep your account but stop billing for a project:
What Happens When You Close Your Account
Impact on Projects
The effect on your projects depends on your role and whether there are other owners:
Your Project Role | Other Owners? (*) | Impact on Project |
Billing Owner | No |
|
Billing Owner | Yes |
|
Owner | No |
|
Owner | Yes | No impact |
Editor | - | No impact |
*If you are the only owner of a project that has other editors or writers, you cannot close your account until you transfer ownership or remove all other users from the project.
Impact on Published Templates
If you have templates listed in the Studio Store, closing your account will immediately unpublish those templates and their live previews. Please unpublish your templates before closing your account.
What to check Before You Close Your Account
There are a few things you need to do before you can close your Studio.Design account. Please review the following steps:
Step 1. Check Your Workspace Participation
If you belong to any workspaces as an owner or member, you need to leave those workspaces before closing your account.
Check if you're participating in any workspaces by looking at the [Workspaces] section on the left side of the Project list screen.
If you're in any workspaces, check your role in each workspace's dashboard.
If you're an owner or member of a workspace, take the following actions:
Your Workspace Role | Other Owners? | Keep Workspace? | Action Required |
Owner | Yes | Yes | |
Owner | Yes | No | Remove project links and delete the workspace |
Owner | No | Yes | |
Owner | No | No | Remove project links and delete the workspace |
Member | - | - |
Step 2. Check Your Project Participation
Review your role in each project and who else is involved.
From your Project list, open each project to check your role.
From each project’s dashboard, click [Members] on the left side of the screen to check the role of the account you plan to close, as well as information about other users involved in the project.
Based on the following steps, prepare according to your role and the status of other users in each project you’re part of.
If any of your projects meet the following criteria:
The account you plan to close is the only owner (or billing owner), and there are multiple users in the project
You cannot proceed with closing your account yet.
Please refer to Step 3.
If any of your projects meet either of the following criteria:
The account you plan to close is the only member of the project
The account you plan to close is the billing owner in a project with multiple users, and there is at least one other owner
You can close your account, but To avoid any unexpected issues, we recommend following the preparation steps in Step 4.
If, in all your projects, your role matches one of the following:
Your role is Editor
Your role is Owner, and there are multiple owners in the project
This will not affect your projects. Please follow How to Close Your Account to continue.
Step 3. Transfer Ownership or Remove Users (If Needed)
If the account you plan to close is the only owner or billing owner in a project with multiple users, please follow one of the steps below:
If you want the project to continue after closing your account
Transfer ownership or billing ownership to another account. Once you’ve done this, you can proceed with How to Close Your Account.
Your Project Role | Action Required |
Billing Owner | |
Owner |
If you want to stop using the project when you close your account
Remove all other users from the project. After that, continue to Step 4.
Step 4. Manually Stop Payments or Unpublish Sites (Recommended)
To avoid unexpected issues, we recommend you:
Your Project Role | Recommended Actions |
Billing Owner |
|
Owner |
|
After you’ve finished these steps, follow the steps on How to Close Your Account.
Tips:
If you’re not the only Owner and you don’t transfer billing before closing your account, the site and preview will stay active until the scheduled downgrade takes effect.
To hide the site earlier, unpublish it manually.
If another Owner becomes the new Billing Owner, they can cancel the scheduled downgrade.
