The default order of items in a CMS List depends on the type of CMS Model linked to the list. You can change the order as needed using the sort feature or a collection.
Article-type CMS Models: sorted by publish date
Other CMS Models: sorted by the item order on the CMS Dashboard
Point: What is a CMS List?
A CMS List is a type of Dynamic List that references data from inside or outside Studio.Design to display on your site. Specifically, it's a list linked to internal content data from Studio CMS.
You can also dynamically edit the list based on preconfigured CMS Properties.
Method 1: Reorder items using the CMS List sort feature
This method uses the sort feature, which lets you change the display order based on Studio CMS properties.
You can sort by publish date, last updated date, title, text, or number.
For details, see CMS List > Reorder items within a CMS List.
Select the target CMS List in the design editor.
In the right panel, open the [Data] tab. If the panel is closed, open the right panel first.
In the [Sort] settings, choose the property to sort by and specify the order.
Method 2: Create a CMS Collection and reorder items manually
This method uses a CMS Collection to pick specific items and manage their order manually.
It's a good fit when you want to display only certain items, such as a list of recommendations.
For details, see CMS Collection.
Tips: Reordering by publish date
For article-type Studio CMS Models, publish date is used as the default sort order. You can adjust the display order by changing each item's publish date.
Since this method requires changing values manually, we recommend using the sort feature for ongoing management.
For steps to change the publish date, see CMS Property: Status and Publish Date > Change the publish date.
When to use each method
Use the table below to help choose the right reordering method.
