CMS items aren't showing on your published site

If your CMS content (articles, tags, categories, carousels, etc.) isn't appearing on your published Studio.Design site, here's a checklist to help you troubleshoot—focusing on common causes like publish status and site updates.

If your Studio CMS content shows up in the Design Editor or Live Preview but doesn't appear on your published site, the issue is usually related to the CMS item's publish status or a missing site update.

This article walks you through the key things to check, in order.

Point: What is Studio CMS?

Studio CMS is a Content Management System feature in Studio.Design that lets you structure, manage, and update content. By combining models, items, and properties, you can manage frequently updated content like blog posts and news articles all in one place.

For more on how Studio CMS works and how to get started, see the articles below.

1. Check the status in the CMS dashboard

Make sure the publish status of the CMS item you want to publish is set to [Published].

Items with a status of [Draft], [Changed], or [Scheduled] won't appear on your published site.

You can check each CMS item's publish status from the locations below.

Check the publish status of a CMS item

  1. Open the CMS dashboard.

  2. Select the relevant model from the [Models] list on the left side of the screen.

  3. In the item list, check that each item's publish status is set to [Published] (green status icon).

  4. If any items aren't set to [Published], change their status.

Check the publish status of referenced models (reference properties)

  1. Open the CMS dashboard.

  2. Select the relevant model from the [Models] list on the left side of the screen.

  3. In the item list, check that the reference property's publish status is set to [Published] (green status icon).

  4. If any items aren't set to [Published], open the referenced model and change the status.

Check the publish status of a CMS collection

  1. Open the CMS dashboard.

  2. Select the relevant collection from the [Collections] list on the left side of the screen.

  3. Check the collection's publish status. If it's not set to [Published], change the status.

2. Check that you've updated your site

In Studio.Design, any design edits or structural changes you make after publishing your site only appear on the live site once you update your site.

Simply editing the layout or design of a CMS list in the editor isn't enough — changes won't show up on the published site until you run an update.

3. If the issue still isn't fixed

If the steps above don't resolve the problem, your data may not have saved correctly due to network issues or similar causes.

In that case, try toggling the status of your CMS items or collections and reconfiguring them.

Set CMS items, properties, and collections back to draft and republish

Change the status to [Draft] for the item that isn't displaying, along with any reference properties linked to it.

Then set the publish status back to [Published].

If you're displaying a collection, change the collection's status to [Draft] as well, then set it back to [Published].

Remove items from the collection and add them back

If you're displaying a collection, try removing the item from the collection and then adding it back.

This can help when item associations within the collection aren't being applied correctly.

Disconnect and reconnect the CMS list's model/collection link

If a CMS list isn't displaying, try disconnecting the link between the CMS list and its model or collection in the Design Editor, then reconnect it.

  1. Open the Design Editor.

  2. Open the page where the CMS list is placed.

  3. Select the entire CMS list and open the [Data] tab.

If the panel is closed, open the right panel.

  4. Click the name of the model/collection linked to the list, shown in the upper-right of the [Data] tab.

  5. Select [Disconnect data] to remove the connection.

  6. Click [Connect data], then choose the same model or collection under [CMS Model] to reconnect it.
