Upload a .txt file

Learn how to upload and manage .txt files, like ads.txt, in your project. These files can share policies, contact info, and more with search engines and LLM agents.

Available on: Paid plans and above

You can upload .txt files (such as llm.txt, security.txt, or ads.txt) from your project settings to manage policies and contact information for external services and agents.

  • Uploaded files are placed automatically, based on the type of file.

  • robots.txt is generated automatically when you publish your site, and it also appears in the txt file list.

You can't edit or delete an automatically generated robots.txt, but you can replace the file.

Note: What happens if you downgrade to the Free plan

If you downgrade to the Free plan after uploading .txt files, the files themselves stay in your project, but you won't be able to see them in the Dashboard.

Uploading a .txt file

You can upload .txt files from the project settings screen in the Dashboard.

  1. In the Dashboard for the project you want to edit, open [Settings].

  2. Select [General] from the menu on the left.

  3. Scroll down, find [txt files], and click the [Add] button.

  4. Choose the .txt file from your computer and upload it.

If you try to upload a file with the same name as an existing one, you'll see a confirmation dialog asking whether you want to replace it.

  5. Once the upload is complete, the file name and upload date and time appear in the list.

Deleting a .txt file

  1. In the Dashboard for the project you want to edit, open [Settings].

  2. Select [General] from the menu on the left.

  3. Scroll down to the [txt files] list and click the trash icon next to the file you want to delete.

  4. Click the [Delete] button in the confirmation dialog.

Upload rules

  • The maximum file size is 1 MB.

  • You can upload up to 30 .txt files.

If you upload more than three files, only the three most recent ones are shown on screen, and the rest are collapsed.

  • Files are listed by upload date, newest first (descending order).

  • If a file name is too long to fit on one line, the rest is truncated.

  • Clicking a file name opens that file in your browser.

Automatically generated robots.txt

For all sites, including those on the Free plan, a robots.txt file is generated automatically in the root directory when you publish your site, and it appears in the txt file list.

  • robots.txt can only be generated automatically.

You can't edit or delete an automatically generated robots.txt, but you can replace the file.

  • If you unpublish your site, the automatically generated robots.txt is deleted.

Activity log records

On Business Plus and higher plans, the following actions are recorded in the activity log:

  • Uploading a txt file

  • Replacing a file with the same name

  • Deleting a txt file
