Move your website to Studio.Design with your existing custom domain

Learn the general steps for migrating your website to Studio.Design from other services like WordPress or Wix.

Available on: Paid plans

Note: This article does not cover detailed setup steps for each service you're migrating from, or DNS configuration for managing your custom domain. Please check with your current service provider for those details.

Before you start

To make your website migration go smoothly, please review the four points below before getting started.

1. Downtime during the migration

When switching a website that's currently published with another service or server to Studio.Design using the same custom domain, some downtime (when your site can't be accessed) is unavoidable.

2. Whether you use email services

Studio.Design does not provide email services.

If you want to keep using email (e.g., john@example.com) on the same domain as your website (e.g., example.com), please see the article "Using email with the same domain as your site."

3. Whether your domain is supported

Please check in advance whether the domain you're currently using with another service can also be connected to a Studio.Design site.

By default, Studio.Design does not allow access to your site from both the www and non-www versions of your URL. For more details, please see the help articles below.

4. Permission to edit DNS records

To publish your Studio.Design site on the same domain you were using before, you'll need to edit A records and CNAME records in the DNS record settings on your external service.

  • Usually, you set this up from the admin panel of the service where you registered the domain (such as "Onamae.com," "Muumuu Domain," "Sakura Domain," "Xserver Domain," "Google Domains," etc.).

  • In some cases, you may be using a separate DNS service.

  • Make sure you have permission to edit DNS records. Some services restrict manual editing of DNS records.

How to migrate your domain (site transfer)

Here's the general process for migrating a website you're running on another service over to Studio.Design.

1. Create a project and sign up for a plan in Studio.Design

Create a project to manage and build your website. Publishing a site on a custom domain is only available with paid plan projects. You can start with a free plan project and upgrade to a paid plan later.

2. Build your Studio.Design site

Build your design in the project's design editor.

Tip: If you already have design files in Figma, you can use the Figma to Studio feature to import them into Studio.Design.

3. Set up CMS in Studio.Design

If you want to include CMS content such as blog posts, you can build your CMS from your project's CMS dashboard. For detailed instructions, see the articles below.

Tip: If you're migrating from WordPress, you can use our CMS data import feature to bring over articles and other content.

4. Switch the domain from your old site

To point the custom domain you were using with your old service to your Studio.Design site, you'll need to update your DNS record settings. For detailed steps and things to watch out for, see Publishing your site with a custom domain.

  1. Click the [Publish] button in the top right of the editor to open the publish panel.

  2. Click [Custom Domain Settings].

  3. Enter the domain you want to transfer from your old site, then click [OK].

  4. Copy the A record that appears (e.g., A 34.111.141.225).

  5. Go to the DNS record settings screen of your domain service, and register what you copied as an A record. (This is done on the external service.)

  6. Return to the Studio.Design publish panel and check the connection status between your domain and the Studio.Design server.

  7. Wait for Studio.Design to automatically issue a TLS certificate so your site can use encrypted communication.

For detailed steps and things to watch out for, see Publishing your site with a custom domain.

Note: Depending on the service you're migrating from, you may need to disconnect the domain on the old service's side. Please contact your current service provider for details.
