Point: Publishing your Studio.Design site with a custom domain
To use a custom domain with your Studio.Design site, follow the steps below in order. For more details, see Publish your site with a custom domain.
Step 1. Get a custom domain from an external service
Step 2. Create a site in Studio.Design and subscribe to a paid plan
Step 3. Prepare your custom domain connection in Studio.Design
Step 4. Configure DNS records with your external service (this article)
This article explains how to configure DNS records (Step 4 above) to connect a domain purchased from Squarespace Domains to your Studio.Design site.
Before you start
The steps in this article apply to DNS record settings for domains that are newly registered and managed through Squarespace Domains.
If you want to switch a domain that is already connected to a published site over to Studio.Design, see "Migrate your website to Studio.Design using a custom domain from another service."
This guide is for users who have already completed Steps 1–3 of "Publish your site with a custom domain."
How to add DNS records
Note: DNS record settings are managed through an external service, so they fall outside of Studio.Design's support. For details, please contact Squarespace Domains. (Last updated: March 2, 2026)
(1) Open the settings page for your domain
Sign in to Squarespace Domains.
Open the [Domains] tab and select the domain you want to connect.
(2) Add and apply Studio.Design's A record to your domain (DNS record setup)
From the menu, select [DNS].
Scroll down and click [ADD RECORD] under [Custom records].
Add the A record specified by Studio.Design as shown in the table below.
Click [SAVE] to apply your changes. Your DNS record setup is now complete.
Host | Type | IP address |
@ | A | 34.111.141.225 |
Tip: Domains with and without www
・A domain with www and a domain without www are treated as separate domains.
・In Studio.Design, only one domain can be connected to a website.
Example: If you connect and publish the domain "example.com" (without www) to your Studio.Design site:
・Visiting "example.com": The site loads.
・Visiting "www.example.com": The site does not load.
(3) Check that your DNS record has been applied
Use an external DNS lookup tool to confirm that the A record you added has been applied correctly.
Example: Checking with Google Admin Toolbox Dig
Enter your domain in the [Name] field.
If [34.111.141.225] appears in the [DATA] column of the results, your settings have been applied successfully.
There may be an issue with your DNS settings in the following cases:
A different address is shown
Multiple addresses are shown
"Record not found!" is shown
If this happens, please see "Troubleshooting custom domain connection and publishing issues > How to check your DNS record settings."
Tip: You can also check whether your DNS records have been applied using other tools like DNS Checker.
Once you've confirmed that your DNS records have been applied, move on to Step 5 of "Publish your site with a custom domain" and check your domain connection status in Studio.Design.
