Connect a subdomain of an existing domain to Studio.Design

Learn how to connect a subdomain of a domain you're using with another service to your Studio.Design site, and how subdirectory setups work.

Available on: Paid plans

Subdomain connection and subdirectory setup

You can keep running your main site at example.com on another service while connecting a subdomain like aaa.example.com to your Studio.Design site.

Note: About connecting a Studio.Design site to a subdirectory

  • By default, Studio.Design doesn't support publishing your site directly under a subdirectory of an existing site (for example, example.com/aaa).

  • With the Custom Proxy add-on available on Business Plus and higher plans, subdirectory setup is technically possible, but it requires knowledge of proxy server operation and network infrastructure.

Use cases

Connecting a subdomain of your existing domain works well in cases like these:

  • You want to keep your existing site at example.com as-is, and publish a Studio.Design-built landing page or campaign site at aaa.example.com.

  • You want to keep running your main site at example.com, while moving just part of your content—like a blog or careers page—to aaa.example.com on Studio.Design. (If you need to redirect from example.com to aaa.example.com, set that up on your existing site.)

How to connect a subdomain to Studio.Design

First, create a subdomain through the external service where you registered your main domain. Then follow these steps:

  1. Click the [Publish] button at the top right of the editor to open the publish panel.

  2. Click [Custom domain settings].

  3. Enter the subdomain you want to connect, then click [OK].

  4. Copy the A record shown (for example, A 34.111.141.225).

  5. In your domain service's DNS record settings, add what you copied as an A record. (This is done on the external service.)

  6. Return to the Studio.Design publish panel and check the connection status between your domain and the Studio.Design server.

  7. For secure communication, wait for Studio.Design to automatically issue a TLS certificate.
