CMS List: Edit images, text, and links

Learn how to change the images, text, and links set for items in a CMS List, with a focus on working in the CMS dashboard.

This article explains how to change the images, text, and links set for each item in a CMS List. You can follow these same steps to edit the contents of a CMS List included in a template or list part you got from Studio.Store.

Point:

💡 If you're not sure which type of list you're working with, see How to tell which type of list or carousel you're using.

💡 If all the nearby boxes change to the same content while you're editing, see I changed a box's image, text, or link, and other boxes changed to match.

💡 To edit the contents of a regular list, see Lists: Set a different image, text, or link for each item.

How CMS Lists work

A CMS List is a dynamic list connected to your Studio CMS data. It displays content by linking CMS properties to boxes in the Design Editor.

To change the actual values of images, text, links, and other content, edit the property values in the CMS Dashboard rather than editing the boxes directly.

Where you edit

What you set up

Register CMS properties (images, text, URLs)

Link the properties you registered in the CMS Dashboard to box elements inside the CMS List so they appear on your site

How to edit a property

Here's how to edit a property value.

When editing a link, the property you need to change depends on the type of link destination. See Editing links in a CMS List below.

  1. Open the CMS Dashboard and select the CMS model that contains the item you want to change.

  2. Double-click the property you want to change and edit its content.

  3. If you changed an item with the Published status, change the status from "Edited" back to "Published".

  4. Check the Design Editor and Live Preview to confirm that your changes appear.

Editing links in a CMS List

In a CMS List, external links are the only type of link whose destination you can change.

For links to detail pages (dynamic pages), you can edit the URL text.

Editing external links

External links are registered as text properties.

When you change the text property, the link destination changes right away.

Point: For steps on registering an external link as a property, see Set a different external link for each item in a CMS List.

  1. Select the CMS model that contains the item whose external link you want to change.

  2. Click the item you want to change, then edit the relevant text property.

  3. If you edited an item with the Published status, its status changes to Edited. Be sure to set the status back to Published.

  4. Return to the Design Editor and confirm the new link destination in Live Preview or on your published site.

Changing the URL of a detail page (dynamic page)

To edit the URL text of a detail page (dynamic page) link, change the Slug property in the CMS Dashboard.

Changing the Slug changes the URL, but it doesn't change which page the link points to.

Note: If you change the Slug, the old URL will no longer work. If there are links from other sites or bookmarks pointing to it, check what might be affected before making the change.

  1. Open the CMS Dashboard.

  2. Select the model that contains the item whose URL you want to change.

  3. Click the Slug property of the item you want to change, then edit the URL text.

  4. If you made changes to an item with the Published status, its status changes to Edited. Be sure to set the status back to Published.

  5. Return to the Design Editor and confirm the new link destination in Live Preview or on your published site.
