This article explains how to change the images, text, and links set on items in a CMS List. You can follow the same steps to edit the contents of a CMS List included in a template or list part you got from Studio.Store.
Point:
💡 If you're not sure which type of list you're working with, see How to tell list and carousel types apart.
💡 If all the nearby boxes change to the same content while you're editing, see I changed a box's image, text, or link and other boxes changed too.
💡 To edit the contents of a regular List, see List: Set a different image, text, or link for each item.
If your properties are already connected to boxes, you don't need to edit the boxes directly in the Design Editor.
To change images, text, and links, edit the properties in the CMS Dashboard instead.
Point: What is a CMS List?
A CMS List is a feature that connects data from Studio CMS (the content management feature built into Studio.Design) to a dynamic list and displays it.
For details on how it works and how to create one, see CMS List.
How to edit a property
Here's how to edit a property's value.
Point: Only external links can have their link destination changed. For details, see Editing links in a CMS List below.
Open the CMS Dashboard and select the CMS model that contains the item you want to change.
In the item list, double-click the cell for the property you want to change and edit it.
If you changed an item with a Published status, change the status from Changed back to Published.
Check the Design Editor and Live Preview to confirm that your changes are reflected.
Editing links in a CMS List
In a CMS List, only external links can have their destination changed.
For links to detail pages (dynamic pages), you can edit the URL text.
How to edit an external link
External links are stored as text properties.
When you change the text property, the link destination changes right away.
Point: For steps on registering an external link as a property, see Set a different external link for each item in a CMS List.
Select the CMS model that contains the item whose external link you want to change.
In the item list, double-click the cell for the target text property and edit it.
If you edited an item with a Published status, the item's status changes to Changed. Be sure to set the status back to Published.
Return to the Design Editor and check Live Preview or your published site to confirm that the link destination has changed.
How to change the URL of a detail page (dynamic page)
To edit the URL text of a link to a detail page (dynamic page), change the Slug property in the CMS Dashboard.
Changing the Slug changes the URL, but you can't change which page the link points to.
Note: If you change the Slug, the previous URL will no longer work. If there are links from other sites or bookmarks pointing to it, check the impact before making the change.
Open the CMS Dashboard.
Select the model that contains the item whose URL you want to change.
In the item list, double-click the cell for the target Slug property and edit the URL text.
If you made changes to an item with a Published status, the item's status changes to Changed. Be sure to set the status back to Published.
Return to the Design Editor and check Live Preview or your published site to confirm that the link destination has changed.
