Set a title and description

Learn how to set titles and meta descriptions that appear in search results and social media for your Studio.Design site and pages, including character count guidelines and the difference between site-level and page-level settings.

What are titles and descriptions?

You can set a title and description for your site and individual pages. By using clear, concise keywords, you can encourage users to visit your site and help search engines understand what your pages are about.

  • Title: The text that appears in browser tabs, search result listings, and similar places.

  • Description (meta description): A summary of the page that appears alongside the title in search results and on social media.

Note: You cannot set a title or description for modals.

How to set a title and description

(1) Open the Site Settings or Page Settings panel

Make sure no elements (boxes) are selected, then open the right panel.

Use the [Page] tab to edit page settings, and the [Site] tab to edit site settings.

Point: Difference between site settings and page settings

In Studio.Design, you can set titles and descriptions at both the site level and the page level.

  • Site settings: Apply to your entire site. If a page doesn't have its own title or description, the site-level settings are used instead.

  • Page settings: Apply only to that specific page and take priority over site settings.

(2) Enter a "Site Title / Page Title" and "Description"

Type the appropriate text in the [Site Title] or [Page Title] field. Details about what to enter and recommended character counts are covered below.

Note: Difference between "Page Name" and "Page Title"

"Page Name" is used to organize pages within the editor and is not shown on your published site. "Page Title" is the title that appears on your published site and in search results.

(3) Publish or update your site

After entering your text, publish or update your site to apply the changes.

If you edit information on an already-published site, the changes won't go live until you update the site.

Note: There may be a delay before changes appear

Even after publishing your site, changes to meta information may not appear immediately in search results or on social media. If you'd like to speed things up, see I changed my title or description after publishing, but it's not reflected in Google search results.

Content and character count guidelines

There are some important things to keep in mind regarding the content and length of your title and description. If you significantly exceed the recommended character count, search engines may automatically truncate or summarize your text, and it may not display as intended.

Title

  • Since the title appears in browser tabs and search result listings, it's effective to include specific, easy-to-understand words and proper nouns such as place names.

  • Aim for around 30 full-width characters (roughly 60 characters in English).

Description (meta description)

  • This is the summary that appears alongside the title. Set a description that matches the content of each page.

  • Aim for around 70–120 full-width characters (roughly 140–240 characters in English), and try to place important keywords near the beginning.

  • If you don't set a meta description for a page, search engines may automatically extract part of the page content and display it as the summary.

Tip: Use AI to generate titles and descriptions

With the "SEO Writing Assist" feature, AI reads the text content of your site or page and automatically generates titles and meta descriptions. For details, see Auto-generate titles and descriptions with AI.

Use CMS properties for titles and descriptions

On dynamic pages (pages that display CMS articles and similar content), you can use properties linked to each article to set a unique title and description for every article.

  1. Click the Page Title or Page Description field on the dynamic page.

  2. Click the [+] button that appears.

  3. Select the CMS property linked to the relevant article.

  4. Type any static text directly, and combine it with the variable property.
