What is Box Nesting?
With Studio.Design, you can build your site’s layout by placing one box inside another. This structure is called “nesting.” Nesting makes it easy to create complex layouts, but there’s a limit to how many levels you can use in a single design.
Note: The nesting limit is different from your site’s page directory structure.
Nesting Limits
Studio.Design allows you to nest boxes up to 12 levels deep. This is the system’s maximum limit.
In some cases, such as when your site includes extra styles or unique design elements, the actual limit may be slightly different.
To help prevent unexpected data issues, we recommend keeping your designs to 11 levels of nesting or fewer whenever possible.
Error Messages for Nesting Limits
If you reach the nesting limit, Studio.Design will display an error message:
“Data cannot be saved because the maximum nesting depth for box relationships has been exceeded.”
You won’t be able to add more nested boxes beyond this point.
This message appears when you try to save or load your design, not at the moment you exceed the limit.
Any design data that goes beyond the limit will not be saved, so please double-check your work.
What to Do If You Hit the Limit
If you see the error message:
Open the Layers panel and review your layout structure.
If you find nested groups you don’t need, try ungrouping them or simplifying your layout to reduce the number of levels.
By keeping your nesting levels within the recommended limits, you’ll help ensure your designs remain stable and easy to manage.
