Large images appear blurry or low quality after uploading

As of May 2025, a 1 GB per file size limit was introduced, and automatic image compression has been removed. Uploaded original images are now used as-is on your site.

Point:

With the May 2025 update, file uploads now have a maximum size limit of 1 GB per file. As a result, automatic compression and resizing of images during upload has been discontinued.

Previously, large images were automatically scaled down during upload, which could reduce image quality. Now, images are displayed at their original quality and size. Large images will no longer lose quality due to compression.

However, images may still appear blurry or low quality under the following conditions:

  • The display size and image resolution don't match

If the actual display size of an image on a web page (the pixel dimensions shown on screen) differs significantly from the resolution of the uploaded image, the browser will automatically scale the image up or down. This can cause the image to appear blurry or pixelated.

Before uploading, adjust the pixel dimensions of your image so they closely match the intended display size.

  • The image has an extreme aspect ratio

For example, uploading an image with extreme proportions like 120px × 12000px may cause layout issues on your page. If your image has an extreme aspect ratio, crop or resize it to a more standard ratio (such as 4:3 or 16:9) before uploading.
