RSS Integration (RSS Lists)

Automatically display RSS article lists from external services like note on your Studio.Design site. This article covers how to add an RSS URL, place a list, connect data, and update content.

When you connect an RSS feed added to your project to a dynamic list, any updates made on the external service will automatically appear in the list on your Studio.Design site.

You can also customize the RSS list, including the number of items displayed and the design.

Note:

RSS URLs include information such as titles and summaries, but the specific content varies depending on the source service. Studio.Design can only display information that's included in the RSS URL, so for details on what's available, please contact the service you obtained the RSS URL from.

Adding an RSS URL

  1. Use an external service or an RSS feed generator to get an RSS link for a user, magazine, or other source.

  2. In Studio.Design, open the Design Editor.

  3. From the navigation on the left side of the editor, select the [Connect] icon.

  4. Select the [RSS] tab.

  5. Click [Add new RSS], enter the RSS URL you obtained into the RSS link field, and click [OK].

  6. A sample box for the added RSS feed appears in the RSS menu on the left.

  7. Drag and drop the sample box onto the screen to embed the RSS list on your site.

The maximum number of RSS items that can be displayed on a site is 20. If you'd like to display more, try adjusting the box layout or page structure.

Connecting variable data (properties) from the RSS feed

Connect the linked variable data (properties) to the RSS list you added.

1. Select a box element inside the list item

Select the box element inside the RSS list where you want to connect the variable data (property).

The type of box you use depends on the kind of data you're connecting.

2. Open the settings tab for the element in the right panel

In the right panel, open the settings tab that matches the element you selected. If the panel is closed, open the right panel.

  • Image box: [Image] tab

  • Text box: [Text] tab

3. Select a variable data (property) in each element's settings field to connect it

In the settings field within each tab, choose the variable data (property) you want to connect from the property list.

  • Image box: [URL] field

  • Text box: [Text] field

Note: If a placeholder property is connected

Some elements in an RSS list may have placeholder properties like media_thumbnail connected by default.

Follow the steps below to replace the placeholder property with the variable data (property) you've connected.

  1. Select the box element inside the list item.

  2. In the right panel, open the settings tab for the selected element. For an image box, open the [Image] tab; for a text box, open the [Text] tab.

  3. Click the settings field and choose the data you want to connect to the element from the variable data (properties) list.

Using filters

You can apply filters to the data you display to adjust things like date formats and character counts.

For details, see Property text filters.

Refreshing the sample box

On a published site, the RSS box loads and displays the latest content each time.

However, refreshing the sample box shown in the editor or live preview needs to be done manually. Click the refresh button in the RSS menu in the add panel.

Switching RSS data

You can register up to 3 RSS feeds per project. Keep in mind this limit applies to the entire site — not 3 per page.

You can switch RSS data from the [Data] panel in the right panel.

  1. Select the RSS list.

  2. Open the [Data] tab in the right panel.

If the panel is closed, open the right panel.

  3. Click the connected data field for [List].

  4. Choose the data you want to switch to from the list that appears.
